Learning Goal: To reflect upon and evaluate your own
artwork.
The process of revision is a critical component to the
artistic process. Your commentary
concerning the revision process shows your ability to reflect upon the characteristics and assess the merits of one's personal artwork and the creative process.
Please describe a
project that you revised during the creation of a piece of artwork. Describe how you revised and changed your
work. Discuss how your revisions
affected the final product.
- A project I used revision constantly would surely be the trading cards. The first time I did them I did not use my time wisely and ended up rushing the finished project. This led to a lower grade than I originally thought, but I anticipated a grade lower than I can achieve. I took it home and took it way more seriously and got full marks which I was proud of. The grade I got prior to revisions was well deserved so fixing my mistakes was an important option. Said revisions affected the final product by improving my craftsmanship and generally the whole idea itself - I changed some of my paintings to something more different and it worked very nicely.

-The skeleton with charcoal project wasn't my very best artwork. It was the one with the lowest mark and this as well was marked fairly. Skeletons was a challenge for me because I never drew one before, plus anatomy itself is an obstacle I can never overcome. If I had to re-do this, I would try to fix up the anatomical errors if possible for me, or at least have a better reference. The angle that I had to draw was another weak point of mine. Another thing I would re-do about this drawing was add more high lights into the skeleton where the light source hits. Although it was a challenge, I thought it was interesting project and like it regardless of difficulty.

- One project that I have revised would be my mixed media painting I did back in September. I have constantly changed colors so it would look more appealing to the eye and not an eye sore. I couldn't possibly change the type of composition because that wasn't a requirement, but I did change my direction of strokes and the way it blended. You probably couldn't tell, but I definitely did fix up my many mistakes. One mistake I notice in particular would be the middle square, which would be water painting. I overlayed too many layers that it ended up almost taking pieces of the board off. But I really like how it turned out. This affected the final product because I got a better grade than prior to my revisions as I'd like to think.

- The project I most want to re-do would be my scratch board assignment that I did in December. The reason would be that the proportions were off and some of the strokes I did on the pig were too long, which are noticeable in a scratch board. It's harder for me because you can't "erase" your mistakes. Also, looking back to the orginal and to my project, not only are the proportions are off but the way the body is presented is as well. The hind legs aren't supposed to be together and the arch of the animal is way too high. The head is a little too big that I intended it to be. I was quite disappointed with the ending result.
