Relfections Semester 2

My Reflections 2012-2013

Learning Goal:  To reflect upon and evaluate your own artwork.
The process of revision is a critical component to the artistic process.   Your commentary concerning the revision process shows your ability to reflect upon the characteristics and assess the merits of one’s personal artwork and the creative process.

Please describe a project that you revised during the creation of a piece of artwork.  Describe how you revised and changed your work.  Discuss how your revisions affected the final product
 - An artwork that I revised and changed would be the one point perspective of John Glenn High School senior's hallway. At first, I didn't think I did the guidelines correctly because it seemed a little off in the beginning. Then, I didn't understand how to create sections off the walls and areas of space. But then I followed the sheets Mrs. Pobanz gave me and it surely helped with the way it looked. The contrast was decent but again it still seemed a bit off. I shaded in the lockers darker because of the suggestion and it instantly made the sketch better. Overall I'm happy with how it looked, it affected the final product because it brought out great contrast that is more eye catching.

-A project I would completely do over again would be my sculpture. It was too simple and I didn't add in enough effort as much as I should of. The idea of it in my head seemed better than the actual product, but it came out exactly how I planned. Also, the materials that I needed weren't always there with me so I had to substitute with objects I made that came from my house. The painting on it was one thing I liked and how I wanted it to look, which is a gradient from black to white and vice versa. I wanted it to look faded and kind of rough looking. I wasn't happy with how I dealt with what was coming out of the box. When I first thought of the idea I wanted things I made on my own and have it supported with long tubes but instead a took an easy route and bought stuff from the store. Either way, what's done is done and is okay enough for me.

- My Still Life painting wasn't as realistic as first when I started painting. I kept on going back and forth with my values and started blending in the colors. It was hard to work with at first, because it either didn't blend well or it didn't look right to me. I tried not to use complete black on the background because then the whole painting would look flat, so I varied the dark values more and less on the corners. When I started to get the hang of it, the blending became better and I added texture, which increased my perception of my painting tenfold. To me it looked more realistic than before, and I was quite happy with the result. The only regret is not working on the lemon more efficiently, I should of added more blending and texture to that one. Other than that, the painting to me looks accomplished.

- One project that I would of done differently would be my mask I did back in April. I didn't try as much as I should, it wasn't very creative nor original. I tried to use Venetian influences plus other things, but it didn't work out to well. The mask itself has poor craftsmanship, I nearly broke it when I grip it too hard. It also needed a second coat of paint, but haven't due to laziness and/or lack of time. You can also see some chipped places which I should of took care of when I added more plaster. Over all it wasn't as good as I expected it to be.
